BenQ AK700ST 4K short throw laser projector in a home golf simulator room

Best Golf Simulator Projector in 2026: Every BenQ Model Compared by Room Size

The best golf simulator projector is the one that fits your room. If your room is shallow, pick a 0.5 throw-ratio model like the BenQ AH500ST, which throws a 10-foot-wide image from just 5 feet away. For most garage and basement bays, a 4,000-lumen short throw laser like the BenQ AH700ST or AK700ST is the sweet spot. For big screens, bright rooms or commercial bays, step up to 5,000+ lumens. Here is how all twelve models in our golf simulator projectors range compare.

Which projector is best for a golf simulator?

Most home golfers should buy a short throw laser projector with at least 4,000 lumens. The table shows how far each model sits from the screen, so you can rule out anything that won't fit your room.

Prices are Daddyshack prices as of October 2026. Distances are lens to screen for a 16:9 image 10 feet wide, calculated from BenQ's published throw ratios.

How far from the screen does a golf simulator projector go?

Multiply the projector's throw ratio by the width of the image you want. A 0.69 throw ratio and a 10-foot-wide image means the lens sits 6.9 feet from the screen.

Most golf impact screens are closer to square than a TV, so the projector has to fill the screen's height, not its width. For those screens, use this instead: screen height × 1.78 × throw ratio. A 10 ft × 7.5 ft (4:3) screen works out to 9.2–11.1 feet for a 0.69–0.83 model, or about 6.7 feet for a 0.5 model. (The LU935ST has a 16:10 picture, so use 1.6 instead of 1.78.)

That number tells you which group to shop in:

  • 0.5 throw ratio (AH500ST, LH860ST, LK830ST): the projector sits close to the screen, in front of where you stand. Pick these for small rooms or when you want the projector on the floor.
  • 0.69–0.89 throw ratio (most models): the projector goes on the ceiling above or just behind the hitting area, out of your swing path. This is the most common home setup.
  • 1.36–2.18 throw ratio (LK935): a standard throw lens that mounts well behind the golfer. It suits long basements and commercial bays, not a single-car garage.

Should you mount a golf simulator projector on the ceiling or the floor?

Ceiling mounting is the default; floor mounting works well with a 0.5 throw projector and a protective enclosure.

  • Ceiling: keeps the projector out of reach of the club and the ball. Mount it high and centered on the screen so your body doesn't cast a shadow. Check that your driver swing clears the projector and its mount before you drill.
  • Floor: no ceiling work, and nothing above your head. A 0.5 projector sits in front of the tee and shoots up at the screen. Because a mishit can reach it, put it in a ball-proof housing like Carl's Floor Mounted Projector Enclosure ($299.95), which includes wedges to angle the image up to fill the screen.

How many lumens do you need for a golf simulator projector?

Aim for 3,000 lumens in a fully dark room, 4,000 in a typical garage or basement, and 5,000 or more if light gets in or your screen is very large.

Impact screens are textured to absorb a golf ball, so they reflect less light than a smooth movie screen. Extra lumens keep the fairways bright and the ball flight easy to follow. Laser and LED light sources are rated for 20,000 hours, while the TH671ST's lamp is rated for 4,000 hours in normal mode before it needs replacing.

Is a 4K projector worth it for a golf simulator?

4K is worth it on a big screen if your simulator PC can run your software at 4K. Otherwise, a 1080p projector looks sharp enough for most home bays.

You usually stand 8 to 12 feet from the screen, so the extra detail shows most on screens wider than about 10 feet. To benefit, your golf simulator computer needs a graphics card strong enough to run GSPro, E6 Connect or similar software at 4K. If you're on a laptop or a modest PC, put the money into lumens instead.

What is the best golf simulator projector under $2,000?

The BenQ AH500ST is the best value for small rooms, and the AH30ST is the best low-maintenance pick for a standard bay.

  • BenQ TH671ST, $849: the cheapest way into a proper short throw projector. 1080p, 3,000 lumens and the same 0.69–0.83 throw as BenQ's newer golf models. It uses a lamp, so budget for a replacement down the line, and keep the room dark.
  • BenQ AH30ST, $1,499: a 1080p LED projector with BenQ's Golf Mode and Screen Fill, which shapes the picture to 16:9, 16:10, 4:3 or 1:1 screens. The LED is rated for 20,000 hours, so there's no lamp to replace.
  • BenQ AH500ST, $1,999: 4,000 laser lumens and a 0.5 throw ratio. It fills a 10-foot-wide image from 5 feet away, so it fits rooms where the others won't, and BenQ designed it with floor mounting in mind.
  • BenQ TK710STi, $1,999: the lowest-cost 4K model we sell, with built-in Android TV and very low input lag for console gaming. At 3,200 lumens, it's best in a dark room.

  • BenQ AH700ST, $2,299: 1080p, 4,000 lumens and Auto Screen Fit, which detects your impact screen and sizes the picture to it with motorized zoom. It takes most of the fiddling out of the first install.
  • BenQ AK700ST, $2,899: the 4K version of the same idea: 4,000 lumens, 95% Rec.709 color, Golf Mode, Auto Screen Fit and Quick Focus. Choose it over the AH700ST if your screen is large and your PC can drive 4K.
  • BenQ LH860ST, $2,399: 5,000 lumens and a 0.5 throw in 1080p. It's the pick for a shallow garage with windows or lights you can't turn off, and its sealed IP6X optical engine handles a dusty garage.
  • BenQ LK830ST, $2,499: 4K in a 0.496 throw, the closest-throwing 4K model we carry. Like the LH860ST, it has an IP6X-sealed engine and can be installed at any angle.

Which premium golf simulator projector should you buy?

Buy the AK900ST for the best picture and curved screens, the LK936ST for big 4K screens with flexible mounting, and the LU935ST when your room can't be made dark.

  • BenQ AK900ST, $5,999: 4K, 6,000 lumens and 97% Rec.709 color, the brightest and most color-accurate model we sell. Its built-in camera runs Auto Screen Fit on curved as well as flat screens, and lens shift (±60% vertical, ±23% horizontal) lets you mount it off-center without losing sharpness.
  • BenQ LK936ST, $4,899: 4K and 5,100 lumens with the same generous lens shift. BenQ rates it for a 200-inch image from about 11.8–12.8 feet, so it's built for wide screens and multi-use rooms.
  • BenQ LU935ST, $3,999: 5,500 lumens at 1920×1200, which gives you a slightly taller picture than 1080p. It's the cheapest way to get 5,000+ lumens with lens shift, ideal for bright rooms and commercial bays.
  • BenQ LK935, $4,499: 4K and 5,500 lumens with a standard throw lens. Only choose it if your room is deep enough to mount it about 14 feet or more from the screen.
